Porto Marghera is the site designated for the WAVE 2016 summer workshop. A forest of industry and chimneys extending for about 2,000 hectares: a huge park of industrial archaeology, intersecting industrial settlements, canals and water mirrors, branches of the commercial port, roads and railways, which have redefined the border between land and water for more than fifty years.Today, only the skeleton of those modernity and industrial apogee is remained. Empty steel and concrete cathedrals, symbols of a vanished power, connected by roads and abandoned lands awaiting a new reason for living.

Meanwhile the economic, social and political reasons for the re-functionalization of the large-scale area will appear, we look for a cure in the state of abandonment and degradation in which Marghera is sinking.

Thus, the goal of the workshop is to identify a series of small interventions that can locally change several areas of Porto Marghera. The result is a collection of small architectures that, by developing a relationship of symbiotic dependence with the pre-existence, free the latent potential of the context in which they are inserted and form the cornerstones of a new vision of Porto Marghera.

As seeds, the proposed projects are minimum interventions that arise in a territory. Their purpose is to observe the past from a new point of view by pushing the visitor to glimpse the future of a place through prospective suggested by their form and presence. As small observers, they motivate a slow transformation of Porto Marghera into a place for discovering a new light. Any intervention, or seed, will be the epicentre of a new urban regeneration.
